Baby Gifts - Part 4 - Car Seat Tent

Although there still are some other small little things here and there that I gave my sister to go with the bag, one of my last and favorite pieces is this...

A car seat tent with Holden's name on it:

It gets even better... It buttons up. Pretty spiffy dude!

My sister really liked it... I think. I mean come to think about it, she doesn't really know how much she will use it, but I am confident that when the little guy arrives that they will learn quickly how awesome some of these things are.

Now I can't finish this part of the post without saying where I got my original inspiration for this. A couple years ago I stumbled on this amazing site, called The Thrifty Chick. Her name was Stacey, and she was amazing, crafty and I just knew that I would follow her forever. Not long after I started reading she posted pictures of her fourth child. A beautiful baby boy named Greyson. A couple days later she posted pictures of her car seat tent tutorial that I knew one day I would have to make. The tutorial is still there for anyone who wants to take a shot at it (mine is altered just a little bit, but you can easily tell what I did to change it). Then not 6 days later it was posted on her blog that this beautiful, talented, creative mother of four had passed away. The rememberance post made me cry, "The Lord must have needed a skilled genealogist (scrapbooker) in heaven and only the most skilled would do." So Stacey years later you are still remembered and have touched so many lives. Thank you and my prayers and love goes out to your family still.

Yesterday I posted information on helping my daughter win a contest. If you can help out I would sure appreciate it. In fact I am thinking about having a giveaway for everyone who votes for my munchkin. Let me know if you would like a giveaway. If so tell me the kinds of things you would want to see ($10.00 gift card, something hand made, or a surprise that I think would fit the winner). Let me know and in the mean time go vote... info below:

Are you on Facebook? If so can you please help me out and vote for my little munchkin... If you go to the Texas Monkey Boutique Page and like them, then go to the 3-4 age group photos and click like on Laci's photo... it is the one below.

TMB Spring/Summer Model Search 3-4 Years Old

Baby Gifts - Part 3 - Diaper Wipe Holders

**** UPDATE - My pattern and tutorial is here... You will love it if you make one! ****

When I had my daughter, one of the things I hated the most for the entire diaper period was how it looked when I was taking her to change her in a public bathroom (restaurant, store, etc.). Not that I hated taking her... that isn't where I am going with this. I hated carrying the small wipe case and (1) diaper out in the open by itself. Not to mention if you put diapers in the bag all by themselves they get really gross and crumpled. You get my point right?!?

So I set out on finding a good pattern. Problem was, the pattern that I was using wasn't a pain in the rear end to get the diapers and wipes in there. I was trying to find the design that I used to do, but didn't put a picture on flickr. So I went to the inspiration for them so that you could see a picture. Basically they were just like this and not easy to make.

It was not really user friendly and I wanted a better design. So here is the design I have been working with since early 2008. It is an envelope style D&W holder that can easily fit a small wipe case and 5-8 newborn diapers (cut me some slack on remember the exact number - my baby has been out of diapers for over a year and a half... hard to believe she will be 4 in 16 days!!!).

Here they are...

This is a shot of both of them closed.

This is a shot of both of them opened (insert oohs and ahhs because the fabrics are swapped.... I know pretty cute!)

Here is the monkey one with the wipe case peaking out.

This shot is to show you that there is still plenty of room to spare in this sucker to stick a ton of diapers.

If I had to pick a favorite thing from all the stuff I was able to use with Laci it would by FAR be these diaper and wipe carriers. You can even fit a FULL size Desitin on the side of the wipe case. We didn't have to use it much but when I needed it, it was very handy to have it in there too.

I LOVED THESE!!! What do you think?

Baby Gifts - Part 2 - Changing Pad/Burp Cloths

Yesterday I posted the baby bag that I made for my sister's soon to be new addition Holden. Today I am going to post some of the accessories.

Here is the front of the changing pad. It is oil canvas so that she knows what side is dirty.

Here is the back of the changing pad.

Here are the burp cloths I made. I did two with the name embroidered on the dot fabric and then two with the monkey fabric that are not embroidered.

I still have a couple more things to post, I just haven't had the chance to take pictures of one of the items. I then also have one more thing to embroider an initial on. She loves everything she has been given so far.

What do you think?

Baby Gifts - Part 1 - Baby Bag

I have spent so many countless hours on this, it is truly a labor of love. This bag features monkeys, polka dots, lines, embroidery, magnets, elastic, and even a clip... here it goes.... Oh and insert squeal here that I can finally put something in a Sew Cute Tuesday at Creative Itch, just sayin. :o)

So this is the front of the bag with the embroidery that says Holden.

Here is a shot of the right front that is an elastic pocket

Here is a shot of the left front that is a magnetic pocket... it was here that I found my (insert sarcasim here) love of magnets! Did you know magnets will stick to your sewing machine plate. Let me tell you how fun these were.

Here is a shot of the inside back pocket that holds the changing pad (will show you that in another post).

Here is a shot of the inside left that is a tall elastic pocket.

Here is a shot of the front two pockets that are elastic. Good for bottles and such.

Here is a shot of the inside right that is a straight across pocket. You will also see the key/binky/whatever you want it to be clip... pretty cool huh?

So all in all here is the bag... what do you think? It's turned out pretty cute!
