That "Oh No" Moment as a Parent

Thankfully Laci has had 5 years of no major incidents. I classify major things as ones that you have to call the ambulance for... She has this horrible habit of hurting herself before a big event. Let's re-cap, shall we?

Before her nap before her 2nd Birthday Party - Put her hand on a light bulb, yeah it was hot.... she burt the tar out her hand, and it was all wrapped up and bandaged for her party.

Bath before her nap for her 3rd Birthday Party - She slipped in the bathtub and got a fat lip... Luckily mom had bright red lipstick and no one could see.

Got super lucky and nothing happened for her 4th Birthday Party - Don't ask me, I seriously threatened to bubble wrap her for a couple days before.

Day before her 5th Birthday Party - Get a call from her school saying that her friend was hugging her from behind and that she fell forwards into a table when pulling away. Yup - nice knot on her head for that party.

So thus far it has been centered around birthdays. Nothing major, but not just birthdays anymore...

Day before school starts (yesterday) - We hear grunting up the stairs. I look over and see Laci's feet hanging off the first landing. Jake and I both rush up the first 1/2 of the stairs and Laci is still just kind of grunting (don't know how to describe it better than that). Her eyes are just staring at us and then kind of looking off. She couldn't speak or talk for what felt like 10 minutes, but was probably more like 1. Then she started saying one word leg then saying back. At that point I yelled for the family to call the 911 thinking that she might have hurt her back.

Over then next couple minutes we were talking to her and she started to slowly start talking a little more and was still saying that her back hurt. She finally started to follow our direction and wiggle her toes and her fingers. She also squeezed our hands. At that point I was relieved beyond belief, no major damage was done, but she was still saying her back hurt. We came to the conclusion right before the paramedics got there that she had knocked the wind out of herself when she fell.

When the paramedics got there, they checked her out and she started to sit up on her own. He said because she was saying that her back hurt on the side and not in the middle that there was no major damage (you know like with her spine). They suggested to take her and have her checked out anyways. At this point it was 4:30pm. Jake and I decided that because she was going to be up for a couple more hours that we would monitor her and then take her in if we needed to or if we saw a change in her behavior etc. we could call them back out.

One of the Paramedics gave Laci and my nephew a sticker. They were so nice and very polite! When they left I sat there just holding Laci for a VERY long time. She asked to take off her yellow power rangers outfit and then I saw the spot she hit, it was under her right sholder blade and was about a 2.5 inches wide red spot. That was where she said she was hurting.

I have had a couple of moments (all of the ones above) where I was like REALLY?!? But this was one that was terrifying. As Jake said after she went to bed, "I will NEVER for the rest of my life forget the look she had on her face at the beginning!" I never want to go through this feeling again. It was horrible.

This morning she was saying her back still hurt and we told her if she is still hurting that bad tomorrow afternoon we will schedule a dr's appt. But I am sure there is a nice bruse there from the fall. So off my little Kindergartener went on her first day of school.... She was a little upset that we were leaving, but I heard she did fine after we left.

So by all means, feel free to leave a comment and tell me your horror stories as a parent. Also please tell me that I am not the only one that wants to bubble wrap their child.

Another Baby Gift Sort Of...

So remember when I did the diaper wipe holder tutorial? No? Well its a good thing I know where it is... here no joke, I use my own tutorial. I just already have the pattern all ready to go. :)

Well my sisters friend saw hers and asked if I would make her one if she bought the fabric. I am a world class sucker for saying yes to this kind of thing. My New Years Resolution of learning to say NO hasn't worked very well.

Whatevs. So she brought the fabric over and we proceeded to make one for her. Of course I had to add a wipe case that is all decorated cute to match the fabric.

I would have added a name in heat press vinyl, but the fabric was so busy it wouldn't have looked very good.... it was kind of nice to pull out the sewing machine. I haven't used it in over 6 months. Got burn out from doing a lot of stuff at once. I love using it though and this was a nice simple project to get me back on my way to hopefully using it more.

Here it is closed you can see it has hearts and cherries on the fabric:

Here is it open. Isn't the cherry fabric on the inside darling?

Here it is with the decorated wipe case peeking out.

Oh... my sister also brought over a onesie that the mom had gotten as a gift and she said that she was sure I could quickly put a V on it so that it would be cuter. Dude... really sure. Again... whatevs. Can someone teach me to say no? I almost had heart failure over this stupid onesie. The vinyl didn't quite adhere the first time and I thought I was going to ruin the onesie for sure. Got lucky though and fixed it without even having to re-cut anything. I got REALLY lucky.

Thoughts on the gifts/things I did to gifts that she had gotten?
